EMSO-Gold metal free Clean Laboratory is a facility composed of two sample preparation rooms and one analytical room. The sample preparation rooms (clean room class ISO 7) is equipped with a new Merck UltraPure Water system (Milli-Q® IQ and Milli-Q® IQ Element purification system ) and a Sartorius Ultra Micro Balance (MCE2.7S-2S00-M-Cubis II with 7 digits). The analytical room (clean room class ISO 5) hosts the Thermo Scientific™ iCAP™ Triple Quadrupole Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (TQ-ICP-MS).

The EMSO-Gold metal-free Clean Laboratory is primarily focused on Paleoceanographic/Paleoclimatic applications. One such application is the analysis of trace elements in the skeletal structures of organisms such as foraminifera and coral fossils as a means to reconstruct past environmental conditions. However, the laboratory is equipped to support many applications in other Earth Science fields and in other research areas (e.g. Archaeology, Biology, Environmental Sciences etc.).
